IMAN Awards Get 5 More Categories For 2018 Edition

+ Event To Hold In October

Organizers of Islamic Music and Associated Nominees (IMAN) Awards, Different Stroke Media (DSM) have announced that the 2018 edition of the awards billed to hold in Lagos in October would be having 5 more categories. And the break down of the 5 additional categories has shown that there would be 3 totally new and 2 restructured categories to widen the scope of the awards.

According to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of DSM, Saheed Ojubanire, " we have reviewed the categories for the awards like we do at the planning stage of every edition of the awards since we started in 2016 and we feel there is a need to widen the scope of the awards to make the event better and richer in content. Therefore, for the 2018 edition billed for October, we would be having 3 New Categories viz: ' Best Islamic Artiste's Fans' Club Exco of the Year (Single Category), Best Islamic Hip Hop Song of the Year (Single Category) and Fastest Rising Islamic Artiste of the Year ( Male and Female Categories)." Ojubanire hinted.

And he further explained that the restructured category is Best Islamic Music Collaboration of the Year now divided into Best Islamic Music Collaboration of the Year (Drama) and Best Islamic Music Collaboration of the Year ( Non Drama). " The newly introduced categories are meant to make the award more all encompassing, more participatory and duly rewarding for every stakeholder contributing their quota to the continuous growth of the Islamic music which is now taking up the centre stage of the music sub sector of the entertainment industry in Nigeria," Ojubanire revealed.

The DSM boss also stated that some of the  redundant categories which did not record any vote and consequently, did not throw up any winners during the 2017 edition might be dropped to accommodate the fresh categories which promise to be keenly contested by the stakeholders concerned. And in explaining why the event is billed for October, Ojubanire said, " well, we want the very best in the industry to compete for IMAN Awards and we have realised that we actually need to wait for Ramadan/Eid-El-Fitri and Eid-El-Kabir to have passed before releasing the categories because it is during those periods that the best of their jobs are released."

He concluded that more deserving stakeholders would also be inducted into the IMAN Awards Hall of Fame this year like they did with Dr. Seye Kehinde of City People Magazine, Dr. Ambrose Somide of DAAR Communications Plc., Mr. Sunday Esan (Okiki), Alhaji Musiliu Akinsanya (MC Oluomo), Alhaji Wasiu As-Sideeq, Alhaji Latifu Oloto, Alhaji Bolaji Bello and Mr. Dare Zaka.
