Award-Wining Indegenous Films And Music Marketer, Okiki, Scores Another First With Online Tv

Astute. Innovative. Refined. Diplomatic. Strategic. The adjectives could go on and on and may still not be able to capture the real essence of popular indigenous films and music marketer, Olugbenga Sunday Esan, the CEO of Okiki Films and Music. In his habit to set the pace for others to follow in the industry where he opetates, the multiple award-winning marketer has recently started an online Television Channel named "OkikiTV+" on YouTube to promote the works coming off his stable.

Recall that he recently flagged off publicity for a first of its kind talent hunt to discover raw talents in the Islamic music industry where he also holds all the aces as a marketer to beat. And his recent haul of awards are testimonial to his being on top of his game. At the recently held Islamic Music and Associated Nominees (IMAN) Awards 2016, he emerged as both the Best Marketer and Best Promoter of Islamic Music of the Year and as an icing on the cake, he also emerged as the Best Yoruba Music Marketer of the Year at the City People Entertainment Awards held few days back.

According to Okiki in a recent interview with Saheed Ojubanire Online, he sees himself as his only competitor and always strive to beat his last record. No wonder he has gone ahead of others by far.

The first was at the Islamic Music and Associated Nominees (IMAN) Awards organised by Synergy Media on Sunday, May 22nd, while the latest one was at the City People Entertainment Awards organised by the City People Media Group on Sunday, July 24th.

The career of the dark complexioned songstress has been on the upward swing since she stepped on the marketing platform of Okiki Films and Music owned by award-winning marketer cum promoter, Sunday Olugbenga Esan. It would be recalled that Okiki as the strategic marketer is simply called won the awards of both Best Marketer and Best Promoter of Islamic Music at the IMAN Awards 2016. And incidentally, he also emerged as the Yoruba Music Marketer of the Year at the City People Entertainment Awards 2016.

Saraki lobbies opposing senators Marafa, Tinubu, Hukunyi, others with new "juicy" Senate Committees' Chairmanship

*See Full List

The Senate President, Bukola Saraki, on Thursday, changed the leaderships of some Senate committees, offering top positions to his staunchest opponents.

Mr. Saraki will also host the All Progressives Congress Senate caucus at his Lake Chad, Maitama residence Thursday night, PREMIUM TIMES understands.

It is the first time Mr. Saraki will be hosting his APC colleagues.

The moves, apparently part of efforts to heal a senate polarized by Mr. Saraki’s election, came hours after he denied he was returning to the Peoples Democratic Party.

Under the new plan, Kabiru Marafa, the Senate leadership’s most outspoken and harshest critic, will head the committee on petroleum downstream. He will be assisted by Phillip Aduda, who is the deputy minority leader.

Mr. Marafa is the former chairman of the committee on national population, who refused to convene the committee’s 2016 budget defence session on the claim that committees were illegally composed.

Suleiman Hukunyi, the secretary of the Unity Forum, a pressure group the campaigned against Mr. Saraki’s election, was appointed chairman committee on national identity.

Mr. Hukunyi signed the Unity Forum’s petition accusing Mr. Saraki of forging the senate rules, a charge the senate president and three others are currently facing in court.

Messrs. Marafa and Hukunyi, with 12 other others, including bureaucrats, current and former Senators, have been lined up as witnesses in the forgery case.

Another top anti-Saraki Senator, Oluremi Tinubu, clinched the headship of committee on environment, previously led by Mr. Saraki in the 7th Assembly.

Mrs. Tinubu left her former position as chairperson of committee on women affairs, for Binta Garba.

Mr. Saraki moved Babajide Omoworare from the committee on business and rules, regarded as “life wire” of the legislature, to the committee on legislative compliance.

Announcing the positions, Mr. Saraki said the decision followed recommendations made to the Senate leadership during the senate’s executive sessions.

Mr. Saraki’s spokesperson, Yusuph Olaniyonu, told PREMIUM TIMES the move was to “strengthen the working of the Senate”.

Mr. Marafa could not be reached for comments.

"Pasuma Is One Celebrity I Hope To Work With Soon"

*Top Male Beautician To Many Of Nigerian Celebrities Speaks

*The Story Of Sola Alebiosu Of Say Zolar  Beauty Planet

Ordinarily, one would not have expected him to excel in an industry where he currently holds sway. And that is not because he is a never do well but rather, due to the fact that the beauty industry of doing make-up, makeover and the rest of it for people often seems to be an exclusive reserve of people of the feminine gender to operate in. But for Sola Alebiosu who incidentally has an effeminate stature and brain behind Say Zolar Beauty Planet, along Kola Road, off Lagos/Abeokuta expressway, Agbado/Ijaye, Lagos State, he seems to be bent on reversing the sexist saying that: what a man can do, a woman can do better, to what a woman can do, a man can do, not just better, but excellently.

Few days back, Saheed Ojubanire Online paid a scheduled visit to his beauty planet which is currently undergoing a major expansion and diversification into some areas of fashion and entertainment businesses, for an interview about what makes him tick as a beautician well sought after by many of the Nigerian celebrities from near and far, and he took every question fired at him with a bullet proof of satisfactory responses. How did the business start for this young man fondly called Say Zolar  by most of the people around him?

Hear him: " well,I started by running a mobile salon. It was just me and my hand bag and I'll visit people in their homes to make their hair. My hand bag was basically my salon " When exactly was that? He was interrupted with that question to keep a chronological track on his evolution in the business, and he said, "that was 2007/2008 before I then had the facilities to work at a salon as a stylist."

But before he would go too far with his story, would it not be nice to ask how he got trained to become a beautician in the first instance? That was posed to him and he went a little further down memory lane. "Yes,I got trained under someone; that was in 2006 after my Ordinary Diploma (ND) in Business Administration from Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, Abeokuta, Ogun State. I was trained at a salon opposite Ikeja Airport Hotel, in Lagos here."

And guess who is trainer was? His trainer was a he like him. A male trainer and beside that, there is another interesting thing you should know about his trainer called Mike, an Ibo guy. " Mike was my boss, he was the model once used on a #500 (five hundred) recharge card of a telecommunication company, I don't want to mention their name (it is MTN, don't tell him I told you oh). And when I was with him, I was living at the shop back then before I left after graduation."

And that was how he transitted to running a mobile salon. Now, how did he get to the first shop where he worked, to cut a long story short? "One of my clients then, a woman, she saw the way I was working as a mobile beautician and she felt I was hardworking, so there was a place I wanted to rent at that time but I could not afford the money the owner of the place was asking for, the money was #45,000 (forty-five thousand naira), so I approached the woman to support me but she said she was about to open a salon too and she wanted me to work as a stylist there and that was how I started with her at Kola Road here."

Renting his own shop, how did that come about, afterwards? " While I worked with the woman I started saving money but when the woman saw that I was making money and my clientele was growing fast, she became kind of jealous, so she asked me to leave. But I thank God by then I had saved some money and some people also supported me, so I opened my own salon too in 2011."

But come to think of it, what struck his interest in the business of beautifying women per se, as a man? Did it have anything to do with his effeminate stature? That question was put to him pointedly. "Ah,ah,ah, no,no,no. Truly, people think like that but let me tell you the reality. Anything you are doing, just let God to intervene and assist you. Really, I have always had interest in the beauty world and again,I'm the only guy amongst my siblings. So, I grew up among girls and I knew how to pack hair from there and some other things about beautifying women. So, that fired me on."

Starting with a single shop in 2011, how did he begin to expand into multiple interlinked shops he now uses as his beauty planet, that is not a wrong question to ask, right? "I thank God for my students. I have trained more than 300 students now and I started with just one student. So, the money my students were paying as tuition fees was used in expanding into two shops in 2013."

Talking about students, most of his students are females save for 3 or 4 guys, how does he cope among beautiful girls numbering up to 15? "You know what, it is a matter of discipline. When you are disciplined and you concentrate on what you are doing, you won't be distracted. Though, the challenge of being the opposite sex from them sometime comes but that is usually put under control with everyone's dignity still intact." "So, you have never dated any of your students?" He was probed further, "no,no,no", he repeated matter of factly.

Now, who are some of the celebrities he does make-up, make-over for or beautifies generally? " The first person I'll mention, I don't call her my client, she is my friend and that is St. Janet. I call her Mama Yabis, Iya Amuludun, she is my friend and client. I also work with Fuji stars Dewale Ayuba, Sule Alao Malaika as a make-up artiste when they are shooting videos, I work on the set of top thespians like Iyabo Ojo, Antar Laniyan and a lot of them. But one person I so much want to work with very soon is Oga Nla, Wasiu Alabi Pasuma. Though, we have met on locations before but I have not worked with him directly yet.

"Meanwhile, when you talk about popular hip hop artistes, I have worked with a lot of them. The likes of Terry G., Tommy Zino, Skally Mental, Kayefi, Seriki and many others, I have worked with them all. I did the make-up during their video shoot and still remain their favourite man up till now. Most of them come visiting here from time to time, even when they are not shooting videos, just to hang out with their man."

There is a major expansion project going on at Say Zolar Beauty Planet as at the time of this interview, what was that all about, he was asked and he answered. " I'm trying to combine a lot of things in the beauty, fashion and entertainment businesses together. You can see a barbing salon being set up there. There is a musical studio inside there. And you can also shoot some scenes in your video in there, there is enough space for that. There is photo studio too." Hmmm, that's huge! Innit?

The name Say Zolar  is as popular as the long stretch or road called Kola Road hosting his beauty planet, how does that make him feel? " Let me give thanks to God for that. Anything you are doing just believe God will be with you. And I believe in my students because they are my future and I believe in my clients too. I have a lot of them overseas, London, America, Jamaica, South Africa and I also have not less than 80 ex students spread across differents parts of the world and I'm proud of them. When I want to do my 10th year anniversary, you'll see what will happen. I also thank God for people around me, my family, friends and everyone, I thank them because they are really the owners of the name Say Zolar!"

Before the final question, Say Zolar  uses himself to promote his business by making up and dressing up like a woman, why would he go that far? " You can't give what you don't have. And you need to be proud of yourself for the way God has created you. I believe a day will come that I'll be one of the top models people would be looking for. I still hope to be a professional model and I know I would work with a lot of companies in Nigeria and overseas. And what you want to give you need to let people see, that is why I use myself as my model."

Finally, what is his message for his clients generally? " Well, for my clients, I always pray for them everyday and I know they are proud of me. And I promise to always do research into the best ways I can beautify them. Most of the things I do, I create them by myself. I believe in Africa, I don't believe it is until we go abroad that we can get the best, everything we need is right here, we only need to research into them and that is what I promise my clients.More research."

Say Zolar's phone contact is: +2347031850525. He is on Instagram as sayzolar and Facebook as Say Zolar.

Popular Broadcaster, Ambrose Somide, Adds Another Feather To His Cap In USA

When an honour is well deserved, it can come from anywhere. Even, from as far as the United States of America for someone resident in Nigeria, and you don't have to be the president. That is exactly what happened to veteran broadcaster, Dr. Ambrose Olutayo Somide, the Director of Radio Services, DAAR Communications PLC, Alagbado, Lagos, as he was last night honoured with a Lifetime Achievement Award for Outstanding Contribution to Broadcasting in Africa at the African Culture and Image Awards (ACIA) held at the Scadshow Theartre, Atlanta Georgia.

The inimitable voice on the radio jetted out of the country few days ago, and many who saw his uploaded pictures while visiting some popular places in the US on the social media started wondering what he had gone to do as it could not have been for a holiday again. He less than two months before, was in London, to enjoy his leave from his very engaging job at both Raypower 100.5 FM  and Faaji 106.5 FM. But now, the picture has come out very clear.

Saheed Ojubanire Online says a big congratulations to an avuncular role model in the media business.

I’ve heart problem, please don’t detain me, Okupe tells EFCC

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) yesterday confirmed a fresh grilling of Dr. Doyin Okupe, who was a former Senior Special Assistant to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan.
Okupe was questioned over alleged N162million illicit payments to him and his companies by a former National Security Adviser, Col. Sambo Dasuki (rtd), and Chanchaga Local Government in Niger State.
But the former presidential spokesman pleaded with the EFCC not to detain him because he has a heart problem.
Although the anti-graft agency admitted Okupe to bail on compassionate ground, he was mandated to be reporting at intervals.
According to a top source, Okupe had been reporting to the anti-graft agency after he was initially interrogated on June 22, 2016.
The source said: “He has been coming to the EFCC over fresh allegations bordering on illicit payments received from the Office of the former National Security Adviser, Col. Sambo Dasuki, as well as strange payments to his companies by a council in Niger State.
“He was quizzed over N50million which he collected in cash from the former NSA without record or accountability.
“We also got evidence that a company that is owned by him, Romic Soil Fix International Limited, received N63million from Chanchaga Local Government of Niger State and another N13.5m from the same council, for reasons that are not stated.
“Another company that is linked to Okupe, Abraham Telecoms Limited, allegedly received N35.5million from the NSA through the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).
“The payments from the Chanchaga Local Government to Romic were made on November 21, 2014 during the PDP primary election and February 13, 2015, just before the general election.
“He has not been able to explain the receipts and has been asked to be reporting at intervals.
“The reason he is not detained is because he claimed to have a heart condition and presented a medical report to back the claim”.
But Dasuki had last week said he was ready for trial in connection with the $2.1billion arms deals.
He insisted that he disbursed all the funds credited to the ONSA based on the directive of ex-President Goodluck Jonathan.
He said: “Based on the service rules in the security circle, I owe it a duty to obey the President and Commander-in-Chief. Ex-President Jonathan approved all the expenses incurred by the ONSA.
“I am ready to prove in court how we complied with the directive of the ex-President.”

NJC sacks female judge who canvassed for Aregbesola's impeachment, two other judges

The National Judicial Council of Nigeria (NJC) has dismissed Justice Mohammed Yunusa and two other judges for judicial malpractices, according to Sahara reporters. NJC met on Thursday and Friday to consider several allegations of judicial misconduct by Justice Mohammed Yunusa of the Federal High Court, Justice Olamide Falahanmi Oloyede of the Osun High Court, and an unnamed judge from Benue State. At the end of its deliberations, the NJC decided that the three judges deserved to be dismissed for acts of gross misconduct.

An NJC source stated that Justice Yunusa had the worst case, with numerous petitions accusing him of receiving kickbacks and bribes. He was also accused of writing and delivering two different judgments in one case.
Our NJC source disclosed that one of the strongest cases against Justice Yunusa was his decision to grant an interlocutory injunction stopping the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission from investigating and arresting Senator Stella Oduah, a former Minister of Aviation, who is the target of an EFCC investigation. Ms. Oduah is accused of massive embezzlement of public funds and numerous acts of fraud in contracts.
Justice Yunusa had been in the public eye after federal prosecutors commenced the prosecution of a well-known lawyer, Rickey Tarfa, as well as other persons accused of bribing judges. Justice Yunusa was named as the major recipient of bribes from Mr. Tarfa, whose trial is ongoing.

The judge became notorious for granting injunctions aimed at stopping law enforcement agencies from carrying out their investigative duties, especially in cases related to corruption by major public figures. “We found out that Justice Mohammed Yunusa basically committed acts that amounted to subversion of the course of justice,” an NJC source said.
Justice Oloyede, a female judge in Osun State, was also sacked by the NJC.

In 2015, Ms. Oloyede caused a scandal when, as a serving judge, she petitioned the Osun State House of Assembly urging them to impeach Governor Rauf Aregbesola whom she accused of corruption.

Our NJC sources said the judges were dismissed after an exhaustive investigation determined that they were guilty of various acts of grave misconduct.

Crack in the wall: Senate top 3, Saraki, Ekweremadu, Ndume fall apart

The crisis in the leadership of the Upper Chamber of the National Assembly has taken a turn for the worst as a cold war has started between Saraki and his deputy on one hand, and the Leader of the Senate, Ali Ndume, on the other hand.

Investigations by our correspondent, in the last one week, revealed that trouble started when Saraki allegedly discovered that Ndume was not on the same page with him on the crisis he was having with the Presidency.

A ranking senator, who craved anonymity because of the sensitive nature of the issue, confided in one of our correspondents during the week that Saraki suddenly discovered that Ndume, who was allegedly close to the Presidency, was no longer pleading his case whenever he was in the Villa.

The senator explained that since his emergence as Senate leader, Ndume allegedly warned Saraki to be wary of Ekweremadu and other members of the Peoples Democratic Party in the red chamber who might want to pitch him against the presidency.

He was said to have specifically advised Saraki to avoid any form of confrontation with President Muhammadu Buhari, but should rather do everything possible to support his administration, so that the latter would extend a hand of fellowship to him.

The source said, “The trouble between Saraki and Ndume started when some of Saraki’s ‘men’ in the Villa started feeding the Senate President with reports of how Ndume had allegedly joined members of the Senate Unity Forum to work against him and Ekweremadu.

“Don’t forget; Ndume contested for deputy senate president against Ekweremadu in this Eighth Senate. His initial intention was to be Senate president before realignment between him and Saraki made him to settle for deputy senate president.

“It was when Saraki discovered that all attempts by him to see President Buhari did not succeed despite Ndume’s assurances that he started listening to other close colleagues, who advised him to adopt a confrontational strategy against the Presidency.”

Attempts to speak with the Senate President on the issue failed as he is currently on Lesser Hajj in Saudi Arabia, while calls put across to his deputy did not also connect.

However, when contacted, the Senate Leader denied knowledge of any face-off between him and the presiding officers of the Senate.

Ndume said, “I am not aware of any crack in the Senate leadership. In fact, I am hearing that for the first time.”

But some of Saraki and Ekweremadu’s aides, who spoke with one of our correspondent off the record in separate interviews, confirmed that Ndume was no longer on the same page with the Senate presiding officers.

An aide to Saraki said, “It is true. Ndume is no longer on our side, but there is no cause for alarm. We have taken necessary measures. We have been observing him for quite some time now, but he has shown to us where he belongs.”

Likewise, an aide to Ekweremadu, who equally spoke on condition of anonymity, acknowledged the crack in the Senate leadership, stressing that Ndume had finally fallen apart with Saraki and his boss.

He said, “The truth of the matter is that the crisis did not start today. It was when the Senate President realised that he was being misled by the Senate leader that they fell apart.”

Top Indigenous Music Producer, Issa Alabede, Gets New Alias

One of the top indigenous music producers dominating production of artistic works in the Fuji and Islamic music industries and IMAN Awards 2016 nominee for Best Producer of Islamic Music, Issa Alabede, has just acquired a new nickname. Recall that he used to be referred to as "Agbara Orin" before he had to honour one of the major artistes he produces for, Alhaji (Dr.) Shefiu Alao Adekunle, by abdicating the alias for him and modifying his own to just "Orin" not too long ago. As you read this, Alabede in addition to being "Orin" would also henceforth be referred to as "Album Specialist."

This new subriquet was given to him by Asiwaju Rasheed Adeshina Shotade a.k.a Shiner, a new multimillion naira music investor who is set to build an unprecedented type of multimillion naira music studios in Nigeria. According to him, he likes Alabede because he is always thinking about how to produce and write songs, and that when he heard that "Album Specialist" was part of conceiving of ideas and scripting for popular Abeokuta, Ogun State based Christian gospel artiste,  Alayo Melody Singer's new album coming out soon, he concluded that Alabede is indeed, an all rounder and "Album Specialist". "You always touch music like a magician sent by God to all artistes," he was quoted to have remarked.

Meanwhile, feelers reaching Saheed Ojubanire Online have it that the reason why the much anticipated 2 in 1 album by Shefiu Alao and produced by Alabede has not been released is due to a slight modification the album requires to update some of the messages in it to conform with the dynamics of the ever changing world of human beings. And that the album which promises to be very explosive should be released soon.
