Organizers Put Up IMAN Awards 2018 Categories For Personality Name Endowment

The organizers of Islamic Music and Associated Nominees (IMAN) Awards, Different Stroke Media (DSM), have put up the award categories for personality name endowment like they did during the 2017 edition of the awards. According to the Chief Executive Officer of DSM, Saheed Ojubanire, the idea of the personality name endowment of the award categories is to make the award project more people participatory. In his words: " we introduced the personality name endowment into the awards last year to make more people participate in the project and write their names in the sand of time in respect of any award category they decide to endow."

How does it work? Ojubanire explained that, " a personality who subscribes to endowing a category of the awards will be attributed to the category by having for instance, instead of just 'Best Male Islamic Artiste of the Year,' it would be endowed as 'Saheed Ojubanire Award for Best Male Islamic Artiste of the Year' or 'Saheed Ojubanire Award for Best New Female Islamic Artiste of the Year' and so on and so forth. And that is the way it would be inscribed on the plaque and would consequently be reported in all the post award publicity both online and in the traditional media. So, the name of the personality goes everywhere with the award category."

Speaking further, Ojubanire asserted that the personality name endowment comes at a cost which could be discussed via the telephone number : 07034570500 (Voice Call and Whatzapp). "Terms and conditions apply, but all that would be disclosed to interested personaliies when they call for enquiries," Ojubanire added.

Meanwhile, shown below is the way the names of winners at IMAN Awards 2017 were published in the foremost celebrity magazine in Nigeria, City People, with the categories endowed by some personalities highlighted in lemon colour.

The award event would be taking place on Sunday, November 18th, 2018, at Mosan-Okunola LCDA Multipurpose Hall, Water Bus-stop, Ipaja Road, Lagos, while the Executive Chairman of the LCDA, Hon. Princess Olabisi Adebajo would be playing the Chief Host to the awards this year.

Breaking: Mosan-Okunola LCDA Lagos To Host IMAN Awards 2018

...As Voting For Nominees Resumes

It is now official that a foremost Local Council Development Area (LCDA) in Lagos State, Mosan-Okunola, would be playing host to Islamic Music and Associated Nominees (IMAN) Awards 2018! The organizers of the awards, Different Stroke Media (DSM), have revealed. According to a Press Statement signed by their Chief Executive Officer (C.E.O.), Saheed Ojubanire, and sent to this medium, DSM had been in talks with the top hierarchy of the LCDA under the distinguished leadership of an amiable Executive Chairman, Hon. Princess Olabisi Adebajo for sometime and the talks have ultimately been finalized. Hence, the distinguished Executive Chairman would be playing the Chief Host to the awards this year.

Though a Christian, the Executive Chairman according to the statement, would be setting an exemplary standard in Nigeria at the Local Council level that the populace should see themselves as one, regardless of their religious differences and stand together for the progress of the society at large. She was quoted to have opined that, "If Nigeria must progress, we must shun anything that divides us and always embrace everything that unites us. And if we must instil that trait in our people, it is always better from the government at the grassroots because we are the closest to the real people. And I must confess that I am higly impressed that IMAN Award project has been recognising even Christians, who are considered to be contributing their quota to the growth of the Islamic music industry in Nigeria as you, the organizers, have shown from your records since the prestigious awards started. So, we at Mosan-Okunola LCDA are glad to associate with such an initiative."

Meanwhile, according to the statement, the voting process for nominees for the 2018 edition of the awards which was put on hold over a week ago as a result of telephone network problem that was denying people the opportunity to vote for their favourite nominees, has resumed. Members of the public could, with immediate effect, start voting in all the categories of the awards because the network problem had been substantially resolved. " Though there are still some issues with MTN but Airtel has been able to sort out the problem fully. And instead of the just MTN and Airtel which were initially announced as the phone networks to vote with, we have now brought other mobile telephone networks in Nigeria on board to save time. Now people can vote from all networks including Airtel, 9Mobile and Glo, while we expect MTN to sort things out as time goes on." The statement disclosed.

The statement then revealed further that the voting exercise had now been extended till Sunday, November 11th to recover some of the lost time to the telephone network problem and the award event is now slated for Sunday, November 18th, at Mosan-Okunola LCDA Mutipurpose Hall, Water Bus-Stop, Ipaja Road, Lagos.

The award voting categories, are therefore, as re-presented below with a minor correction on the title of an album released by a female Islamic artiste in the Album of the Year Category which was wrongly referred to as "Suuru" instead of the correct title of "Al-Quran"...

The votes should be sent to a short code: 33811 using all mobile telephone networks in Nigeria (note: MTN is still having issues with their network but all other telephone networks are going through). And the procedure is to type: "IMAN", leave a space, type the serial number of the category you are voting in i.e.: "1", leave a space, and then type the name of your favourite nominee as written on the list and send to 33811. For example: IMAN 1 Dare Melody or IMAN 2 Tope Alabi and send to 33811.

Organizers Put IMAN Awards 2018 Voting On Hold Over Phone Network Problem

Organizers of Islamic Music and Associated Nominees (IMAN) Awards, Different Stroke Media (D.S.M.), in a Press Statement sent to this medium, have put the voting for nominees in all categories of the awards on hold until further notice. This is said to be coming on the heels of telephone network problem which has been denying people the opportunity to vote for their favourite nominees.

According to the statement signed by the Chief Executive Officer (C.E.O.) of D.S.M., Saheed Ojubanire, the decision was taken to protect the integrity of the awards in respect of the outcome of the votes in the long run. " My phone line has been inundate with calls from nominees for the awards complaining that the votes by their fans have been bouncing back since voting was announced to have commenced on October 1st." The statement read in part.

It was further revealed in the statement that the complaint was cross-checked by D.S.M. and was found to be true as, while votes sent via MTN lines were bouncing back, the Airtel votes which seemed to be going were not also getting to the control panel where the votes were supposed to be compiled, which means the votes were hanging. " We immediately communicated the situation to the agency handling our short code and they told us it is a network problem which the telephone service providers are still working to resolve. But since they could not give us a time frame of when the problem would be resolved precisely, we feel it is best we put the voting exercise on hold for the time being." The statement disclosed.

In assuring nominees that everyone of them still have a level playing field to win in any category they are in, the statement added that nobody is at an advantage because nobody's vote has been recorded so far. And before voting would resume, it would be well communicated to everyone to know and tell their fans to begin to vote. But for now, everyone is advised to hold on.

In conclusion, the statement added that nothing is going to change about the already established aspects of the awards such as the nominations, the Hall of Fame designates, but the date for the awards may change depending on how much time is lost to solving the telephone network problem. "We need to give enough time to the voting exercise so that every nominee can gather as much votes as they can before winners would emerge," the statement concluded.

Nominations For IMAN Awards 2018 Are Out

The waiting game is over as organizers of Islamic Music and Associated Nominees (IMAN) Awards, Different Stroke Media (DSM), have finally released nominations for the 2018 edition of the prestigious awards. Though, many stakeholders in the industry expected the annual award event to have been done with by now considering the fact that the 2017 edition took place on August 20th, but the organizers contend that the 2018 edition was left till now to get the best out of the event.

According to Saheed Ojubanire, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of DSM, when the 2017 edition was reviewed, it was realize that some quality musical works as well as a number of would-have-been nominees were shut out because the event held after Ramadan/Eid-el-Fitri celebration and before Eid-el-Kabir festival which by implication, meant that the albums released for the Eid-el-Kabir festivities and some new artistes who were thown up in some of those jobs were unwittingly denied the opportunity of nominations during the 2017 edition. And to guide against a repeat of that, the organizers have resolved to be holding the awards well after Eid-el-Kabir.

Without further ado, like it was done during the 2017, the 2018 edition's winners would be determined through voting %100 by members of the public. The votes would be sent to a short code: 33811 using either MTN or Airtel line (voting with any other line would be invalid). And the procedure is just to type: "IMAN", leave a space, type the serial number of the category they are voting in i.e.: "1", leave a space, and then type the name of their favourite nominee as written on the list and send to 33811. For example: IMAN 1 Dare Melody or IMAN 2 Tope Alabi and send to 33811. Each vote costs #50.00 (Fifty Naira) and multiple votes are allowed on just the 2 stated telephone networks. The voting which is starting on October 1st, 2018, would end on Sunday, October 28th, 2018, and the award ceremony would hold on Sunday, November 4th, 2018, at a venue to be announced soon, in Lagos.

I SEE MYSELF AS A POLITICAL MECHANISM ~ LAGOS EAST SENATORIAL ASPIRANT

I see myself as a political mechanism to better the life of the people of my constituency through prudence and in-depth fear of God as well as concern for humanity.

The above is the vision and mission of a senatorial aspirant under the All progressives Congress Party for Lagos East Senatorial District, Ambassador Oluwatoyin Kayode Lawal.

The former Deputy High Commissioner of Nigeria to the United Kingdom while reeling out his plans if given a chance to be a member for the upper chamber, he noted that he has come to offer quality representation.

“I will not be a rubber stamp senator. I will be sponsoring bills that will elevate the status of Lagos state, because Lagos state deserves Special status.

The aspirant believes that he has what it takes to redefine the Lagos east senatorial district.

“We are in the system and we have what it takes to re-module our Lagos state. I will put the interest of my constituents above myself because I believe in the pragmatic nature of life.

The former Nigeria’s  Charge D’Affaires at the Nigerian Embassy in Cote D’ Ivore said he entered into the foray of politics because he has the legislative technical know-how.

Fuji Music Star, Sefiu Alao Takes New Chieftaincy Title

As you read this, Iro, a sprawling community on the outskirts of Ogun State is being shaken to its foundation with merriment as Fuji music star, Alhaji Sefiu Alao Adekunle has just been bestowed with a new chieftaincy title of "Awise of Iro Land" by the Oniro of Iro, Oba Najim Niko.

The new chieftaincy title which literally translates to "The one with the gift of true professy" may not be unconnected with the professing by Sefiu Alao in one of his albums long before the king, who hitherto was a popular hotelier in Abeokuta became a king, that he (Sefiu Alao) saw him (the Oniro of Iro) becoming one, sooner or later.

And since the professy finally came to pass some years after, it is not surprising that the king has in turn bestowed such a title on Sefiu Alao. Meanwhile, the merriment which had started already in Iro, according to the Public Relations Officer to the artiste, Wole Osikoya better known as Shoshogirisho, would continue in Abeokuta later in the evening.

IMAN Awards Get 5 More Categories For 2018 Edition

+ Event To Hold In October

Organizers of Islamic Music and Associated Nominees (IMAN) Awards, Different Stroke Media (DSM) have announced that the 2018 edition of the awards billed to hold in Lagos in October would be having 5 more categories. And the break down of the 5 additional categories has shown that there would be 3 totally new and 2 restructured categories to widen the scope of the awards.

According to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of DSM, Saheed Ojubanire, " we have reviewed the categories for the awards like we do at the planning stage of every edition of the awards since we started in 2016 and we feel there is a need to widen the scope of the awards to make the event better and richer in content. Therefore, for the 2018 edition billed for October, we would be having 3 New Categories viz: ' Best Islamic Artiste's Fans' Club Exco of the Year (Single Category), Best Islamic Hip Hop Song of the Year (Single Category) and Fastest Rising Islamic Artiste of the Year ( Male and Female Categories)." Ojubanire hinted.

And he further explained that the restructured category is Best Islamic Music Collaboration of the Year now divided into Best Islamic Music Collaboration of the Year (Drama) and Best Islamic Music Collaboration of the Year ( Non Drama). " The newly introduced categories are meant to make the award more all encompassing, more participatory and duly rewarding for every stakeholder contributing their quota to the continuous growth of the Islamic music which is now taking up the centre stage of the music sub sector of the entertainment industry in Nigeria," Ojubanire revealed.

The DSM boss also stated that some of the  redundant categories which did not record any vote and consequently, did not throw up any winners during the 2017 edition might be dropped to accommodate the fresh categories which promise to be keenly contested by the stakeholders concerned. And in explaining why the event is billed for October, Ojubanire said, " well, we want the very best in the industry to compete for IMAN Awards and we have realised that we actually need to wait for Ramadan/Eid-El-Fitri and Eid-El-Kabir to have passed before releasing the categories because it is during those periods that the best of their jobs are released."

He concluded that more deserving stakeholders would also be inducted into the IMAN Awards Hall of Fame this year like they did with Dr. Seye Kehinde of City People Magazine, Dr. Ambrose Somide of DAAR Communications Plc., Mr. Sunday Esan (Okiki), Alhaji Musiliu Akinsanya (MC Oluomo), Alhaji Wasiu As-Sideeq, Alhaji Latifu Oloto, Alhaji Bolaji Bello and Mr. Dare Zaka.

Amosun's Invasion Of My Land Despite Court Order, Height Of Executive Rascality-- Alani Bankole

Egba High Chief and father of former Speaker, House of Representatives, Dimeji Bankole, Chief Suarau Alani Bankole has described the invasion of his land by agents of Ogun State Government despite a subsisting court order, ostensibly on the instruction of Governor Amosun as the height of executive rascality.

Adebisi Adeyanju, Media Aide to the Egba High Chief who spoke to our correspondent, said the land, a subject of litigation and for which judgement was given in favour of Chief Bankole was invaded in the wee hours of thursday 17th of July,2018. She opined that the invasion might not be unconnected with the decision of Hon. Justice Akinyemi to personally visit the property over issues of identity and possession. In her words, "after judgement was delivered in our favour the second time, the argument over the stay of execution filed by the government led to the decision of Hon. Justice Akinyemi to personally visit the land on the 18th of July, 2018, not only to resolve the issue of identity but also to confirm that indeed, Chief Bankole took possession of the land as against the argument of the defendants".

She continued, "To our greatest surprise, information reached us at about 12.30 a.m. of July 17th, 2018, that agents of government were on the land carting away goods worth millions of naira belonging to tenants amongst whom is a mechanic, Mr. Adegbite, whose customers' vehicles were also taken away. We have it  on good authority that, the 'operation' lasted till about 4 a.m. and during that period, the street light in that area was turned off and vehicular movement was diverted. Policemen were drafted from Government House for the clandestine exercise. As a matter of fact , a passerby was shot in the process of the operation and was taken to the Federal Medical Centre in Abeokuta for treatment.

Expressing surprise over the action of the governor, she said, "It still baffles me why the Governor is so desperate to hijack Chief Bankole's property. It is expected that since he filed stay of execution which the court later granted him, he should have waited for the judicial process to take its course rather than the government racasality and flagrant disregard for the rule of law which he is currently displaying.
As I speak, they have commenced construction on that land on which status quo is expected to be maintained. It is a serious case of abuse of office and executive power. Somebody should remind Mr Governor that this is clearly against his oath of office, especially now that he has just about ten months to leave office."

When contacted, Olumide Ayeni, the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice in Ogun State, said he was not prepared to speak on the matter claiming that the matter is in court. But when our correspondent reminded him that this is a case of invasion, Ayeni alleged that he  (our correspondent) was been sponsored and rudely hung up.

Meanwhile, Alani Bankole in a letter date 17th July, 2018, addressed to the Commissioner of Police and copied both the Alake of Egba Land, Oba Adedotun Gbadebo,CFR and Divisional Police Offficer, Ibara Police Division, called for indepth investigation into the matter. The letter a copy of which was made available to our correspondent is titled: "Invasion of My Land Situate, Lying And Being At Plot 1, Block V1, Ibara Commercial Centre, Ibara, Abeokuta," reads in part:  " Investigations carried out revealed that the vehicles were towed by Mobile Police Officers and Officers of Trace ostensibly at the instance of the Defendants. The vehicles were traced to Trace's premises but up till now the Container including the stock, Generator, Deep Freezer, Gas and other items belonging to Biodun Olukoya have not been located.

" I hereby bring the unfortunate incident to your humble self hoping that you will carry out a detailed investigation without fear or favour." The letter concluded.
