The stage in music industry is seemingly set for what could be described as a battle royale between the Paramount King of Fuji, Asiwaju Abass Akande Obesere (PK1st) and popular lewd lyricist, Janet Iyun who is better known as St. Janet. And the bone of contention in this regard is based on who between the two would be controlling the soul of lewd music in days to come.
It would be recalled that many years
back, Obesere launched himself into prominence as a Fuji artiste with sexually
explicit lyrics which he dubbed “Asakasa” (music largely infused with sexual
innuendoes) and he strangely gained more acceptance and less rejection among
music lovers. Consequently, he waxed albums after albums which thrived on lewd
lyrics with which he gained fame and fortune internationally.
However, at a later stage of his
music career, “Oba Idan” (King of the unexpected) as Obesere would also call
himself back then mellowed down on churning out creatively crafted sexual
innuendoes which his brand of Fuji was known for, probably out of maturity or
rebranding, but that unfortunately sent his flourishing career on a downward
slope.
And while Obesere was still battling
with how to maintain relevance in the music industry after obviously dropping what
created the niche for him in the first place, the self-styled General Overseer
of St. Bottles Cathedral (St. Janet) burst into the spotlight from no-where and
took the music industry by storm with “stark naked” lewd lyrics. And pronto,
many of the lewd music lovers that Obesere must have left in the lurch by
altering his style of music rushed on the bandwagon with the new daring female
sexual innuendoes-spinning vocalist. And Obesere’s loss became St. Janet’s gain
as despite condemning her openly; many became her fans secretly as her music
went viral on every possible musical device from handset, to laptop to MP3 and
the rest of them.
Hence, as the buxom mother of one
kept getting local and international shows and simultaneously, kept smiling to
the bank with her ever rising profile, but the same could not be said of
Obesere on the other hand, with his newly found style of music in which he
found it difficult to find his footing after years of his incursion. And like a
traveler who had been sleeping in the course of a long journey and suddenly
jolted out of his slumber when the vehicle plunged into unavoidable pothole,
Obesere seems to have been nudged back to reality by St. Janet’s blossoming
career in a genre of music he wittingly dumped.
And Papa Tosibe (the chief fornicator),one
of the many names Obesere created for himself to promote his lewd music then,
is now struggling to stage a comeback but alas, “Omo tio dese ri”( the lady who
has never sinned), one of St. Janet’s ironic self-given nicknames, has gone
many miles ahead. And the more Obesere revs up his speed, the farther he finds
himself behind. And his recent appeal to his lost fans that he never dropped
lewd music has kept falling on deaf ears because his ululation is apparently
too far behind for those who have already taken comfortable spaces in the
bandwagon far, far ahead to hear.
Meanwhile, to probably show to the
lost fans that he is serious about the appeal he is making, Obesere staged a
show in Abule-Egba, along Lagos/Abeokuta expressway few days back to prove his
point. Right from the posters printed for the show, one could say without
mincing words that it was going to be a show in which all morality was going to
be thrown to the winds. Aside from the picture of Obesere’s bare-chested
picture with his bling-bling circling his neck, boldly decorating the poster,
there was a picture of a busty lady below who would remind you of “Miss endowed”,
Cossy Orjiakor (who once danced erotically for PK1st in his “Apple Juice” album
video), with the bust already bouncing out of the big bra. The show was tagged:
“Gogo Show” and it reportedly lived up to its billing at the jam-packed venue
where it held.
The big question is: now that Obesere
is back with a bang on his familiar turf, which between him and St. Janet is
going to hold all the aces in the lewd music battle by controlling the lion
share of fans? The answer should come in a matter of time.
